DeepFND - Deep Foundation Design Software
Deep foundation design can be more complex and challenging than it appears in simple text books. Determining the geotechnical pile capacity is an art with many different methods that are available. Beyond estimating the skin friction and end bearing very often we also need to determine the lateral pile capacity. Add to this structural capacity calculations, settlement performance, pile groups, pile rafts and a host of different design codes such as AASHTO LRFD and Eurocode 7 or Australian Standards and you could be spending more time researching the design methods, using different calculation solutions versus delivering a solution that works.
That is why we developed DeepFND, a powerful, user-friendly program for deep foundations, developed by expert engineers to help you design deep foundations and minimize your risks.
These are not just marketing words. We are engineers with experise and are passionate about helping you succeed.

No time to waste, choose DeepFND?
If you want all deep foundation calculations performed in a single program then DeepFND is for you. We all know the challenges of predicting pile performance. If you are an engineer and not an analyst involved in deep foundation design then DeepFND is for you.
You will have the power to perform structural and geotechnical calculations of drilled piles, driven piles, caissons, micropiles, CFA piles, Drilled-in-displacement piles and helical piles. Easily change pile types, section, and the reinforcement. The software perform full lateral and vertical pile analysis and can optimize the required embedment length. DeepFND can design both Single Piles and Pile Groups.

STRUCTURAL AND GEOTECHNICAL CODES
DeepFND incorporates many international design codes and standards for the design and analysis (structural and geotechnical) of all wall pile types.
In DeepFND we can perform a service or factored design with the use of US and European standards. We can easily select and change between several US, European, Australian and Chinese structural codes.

- Chinese Standards (CN)
- NYC Building Code
- IBC 2015 standards

AXIAL AND LATERAL PILE ANALYSIS
DeepFND performs both vertical and lateral pile analysis and includes several bearing capacity equations. Easy recommendations help you select the appropriate method depending on the pile type and installation method.
For regular piles: DeepFND implements multiple pile installation standards (FHWA GEC-8 and 10, AASHTO Norlund, IBC, NYC Building Code, AASHTO LRFD and more).
For helical piles the software uses both the individual plate and the cylinder methods, reporting the most critical. The general and the Helicap equations can be selected. For the vertical pile design, we can select to use either the Vesic, or the Meyerhoff-Hansen method. DeepFND calculates and checks the helical pile installation torque.
For the lateral pile analysis, DeepFND can use either the defined load on the pile head and calculate the developed moment, shear and pile displacement diagrams, or it can perform a pushover analysis, calculating and presenting the required lateral load to achieve a specified pile head displacement.
DeepFND can perform settlement analysis. In the software we can select one of the implemented pile acceptance criteria, or define our own.

MULTIPLE PILE TYPES
All pile types examined for axial and lateral design - deep foundations from A to Z, drilled, driven, helical.
Typical piles (drilled, driven, CFA, Caisons etc) can be of any typical shape (circular, square, hollow) reinforced concrete, structural steel or timber (wood). The pile can be normal or belled type. We can define composite pile sections and we can change the pile section along the pile depth.
Helical piles in DeepFND can be of any typical shape (pipes, square solid and square hollow sections). In each pile we can define and assign and unlimited number of helix configurations. The piles can be grouted. Finally, we can use external casing on the pile head, increasing the pile lateral capacity.
- Helical piles (pipes, square solid or square hollow sections)
- Reinforced concrete piles (circular or square section)
- Prestressed Concrete & Sections with GFRP and CFRP
- Steel beams (H piles, pipes, channel sections)
- Belled type piles
- Timber piles (wood)
- Steel core piles
- Composite piles

SINGLE PILES AND PILE GROUPS
DeepFND can design both Single Piles of any shape and installation type, and Pile Groups with multiple piles (the additional optional module Pile Groups is required).
The software can also design Pile Rafts, considering the combined effect of the soil below the raft (additional module to our Pile Group option).
- Single Piles (Helical and Non-Helical)
- Rectangular Pile Caps
- Triangular Pile Caps
- Circular Pile Caps
- Hexagonal Pile Caps
- Octagonal Pile Caps
- User-Defined Perimeter Pile Caps
- Pile Rafts

3D FEM
With the 3D FEM module, the user can model any type of pilegroup/pileraft foundation with the advanced finite element method. The module provides numerous ways of automation, rendering the creation of a complex Finite Element model a straightforward and errorless procedure. The following modelling options are available:
Soil – The soil medium can be modelled with linear tetrahedral or quadratic tetrahedral finite elements.
Pilecap – Quadratic and linear shell elements are available for the simulation of the pilecaps.
Piles – Piles are modelled as beams (Euler-Bernoulli beam) in accordance with the 3D embedded pile concept. The user can select either a purely elastic behaviour for the pile or a distributed plasticity model based on the slice discretization of the pile section.
There is a variety of material models available:
- Mohr coulomb
- Soil Hardening
- Small Strain soil hardening
- Drucker Prager
- Hoek Brown

DYNAMIC ANALYSIS
The user can run dynamic time history analysis with both the P-Y method and the Finite element method. Any number of point, linear and area time history loads can be applied on any foundation. Furthermore, earthquake loads in the form of imposed displacement time histories at the boundaries of the soil domain are also available.

MODEL WIZARD AND DEPTH OPTIMIZATION
The DeepFND Model Wizard can be used to create any deep foundation model in minutes. We can use the Wizard tabs to define all project parameters (analysis settings, pile type and structural section, external loads and design standards). The Wizard creates the model automatically, saving us a lot of time and effort for the initial creation.
DeepFND has an automatic length optimization tool. The software can use a defined step to increase the pile depth up to a defined depth limit, calculating the axial tension and compression capacity in each step.

SOIL PROPERTIES - SPT RECORDS - CPT LOGS
Easily define soil types, soil properties and stratigraphies with user-friendly dialogs.
In DeepFND we can create an unlimited list of soils and define all soil properties quickly. The software provides several estimation tools (SPT Estimator and partial estimation tools for each property using scientific methods and equations).
You can directly add SPT Records and CPT Logs, which can be used from the software to estimate various soil properties.
- Define list of soil types
- Define list of stratigraphies (borings)
- Soil properties estimation tools
- Estimate rock properties from RQD
- SPT Records
- CPT Logs
