The best software solution for geotechnical engineers and contractors
Modern geotechnical engineering demands more than isolated calculations or single-method analyses. Engineers are expected to deliver designs that are technically rigorous, code-compliant, efficient, and clearly communicated, often under tight schedules and with increasing project complexity. Developed by Deep Excavation LLC, DeepEX was created precisely to address these challenges, offering a comprehensive design environment built around real engineering workflows.
At the core of DeepEX is a fully integrated analysis framework. The software brings together Limit Equilibrium Methods (LEM), Nonlinear analysis, and Finite Element Methods (FEM) within a single workspace (Figure 1). This integration allows engineers to follow a logical and defensible design path: beginning with analytical and semi-empirical checks, then progressing to more advanced numerical modelling when project conditions require deeper insight. Rather than switching between multiple tools, users can compare methods, validate assumptions, and refine designs seamlessly.

DeepEX is not limited to geotechnical checks alone. It enables engineers to perform both geotechnical and structural checks within the same model (Figure 2). Retaining walls, struts, anchors, piles, tunnel linings, and other structural elements can be checked directly against applicable design codes. The software incorporates many of the most widely used international and regional standards, allowing engineers to produce designs that meet local regulatory requirements while maintaining consistency across projects and regions.

A defining characteristic of DeepEX is its clarity and usability. The interface is designed to make complex analyses transparent rather than opaque. Results are presented visually and intuitively, allowing engineers to quickly understand behaviour, identify governing mechanisms, and assess critical stages. This focus on visualisation supports sound engineering judgement and reduces the risk of treating numerical outputs as “black-box” results.
Efficiency and productivity are central to DeepEX philosophy. Tools such as the DeepEX Wizard significantly reduce model setup time by guiding users through common design scenarios, while the integrated AI assistant helps streamline repetitive tasks and improve workflow efficiency. These features allow engineers to spend less time configuring models and more time evaluating results and developing solutions.

From a technical perspective, DeepEX supports a wide range of geotechnical applications. Engineers can analyse everything from simple slopes and levees to deep excavations, embankments, tunnels, and consolidation problems, using appropriate constitutive models and analysis approaches. For complex projects, the software extends naturally from LEM into 2D and 3D FEM, enabling detailed assessment of soil–structure interaction and time-dependent behaviour.
DeepEX also places strong emphasis on the connection between site investigation data and design assumptions. Results from CPT and SPT testing can be integrated directly to generate soil stratigraphy and derive characteristic parameters for analysis (Figure 6, Figure 7). This ensures transparency and traceability from ground investigation through to final design.
Beyond engineering analysis, DeepEX includes cost estimation capabilities, allowing engineers to evaluate how design choices influence construction cost. This feature supports more informed decision-making and encourages solutions that are not only safe and compliant, but also practical and economical.

Taken as a whole, DeepEX reflects the design philosophy promoted by Deep Excavation LLC: a platform that supports better engineering, not just more calculations. By combining analytical methods, advanced FEM, intuitive visualisation, and productivity-driven tools in one environment, DeepEX enables geotechnical engineers to focus on understanding ground behaviour and solving project challenges—rather than spending valuable time assembling and managing models.
Conclusion
DeepEX is more than a calculation tool—it is a complete geotechnical design environment built around the way engineers actually work. By integrating analytical methods, nonlinear analysis, and advanced 2D and 3D FEM within a single, intuitive platform, DeepEX enables engineers to move efficiently from concept to construction while maintaining technical rigour and code compliance.
With strong links to site investigation data, clear and accessible result visualisation, productivity-driven features, and built-in cost awareness, DeepEX allows geotechnical engineers to focus on engineering judgement and problem-solving, rather than model setup and tool management. For projects ranging from routine designs to complex deep excavations and tunnelling works, DeepEX provides the confidence, efficiency, and insight needed to deliver reliable and practical solutions.
