FAQ: How can I define train loads in DeepEX?

- 2 min read
DeepEX allows you to model external surcharges such as construction equipment, traffic, and train tracks. The Train Loads tool provides an automated way to add train embankments and track loads directly in the model area.
1. Adding a Train Load
Select Train Loads and place the load graphically in the model area.
In the dialog, define whether the embankment weight is included in the surcharge.
Choose the number of tracks, their positions, and load magnitudes.
Select a calculation method for the train surcharge pressures acting on the wall.

2. Surcharge Calculation Methods
DeepEX offers multiple methods for calculating surcharge pressures from train loads:
AREMA (default): Uses Boussinesq equations with an elastic load multiplier of 2.
Elasticity equations
2-way distribution angle
Other standard approaches for special cases.
These methods allow flexibility depending on project requirements and design codes.

3. Embankment Options
An embankment can be included or omitted.
When active, users can define geometry, thickness, position, and unit weight.
The embankment is automatically treated as an external strip load in the analysis.

4. Track Load Configurations
DeepEX provides both custom track definition and predefined options:
Cooper E80
Single Track with Embankment
CTA Normal Operating
CTA Crane Track
Two-Track Mix (CTA Normal + Crane)
These presets can be modified as needed, or new track loads can be fully customized.

Tip: Combine the Train Loads dialog with graphical placement in the model for faster setup and visualization of track surcharges.
