STEEL BEAM Functionality

Steel-Beam is a computer program has many available functions for design of steel beams and colums under combined axial and flexural loads ( bending).

Steel Design Codes - ASD 9th Edition Allowable Stress Design - LRFD 2nd Edition Load Factor Resistance Design - LRFD 3rd Edition Load Factor Resistance Design - AASHTO 2000 Service and LRFD
Member Databases AISC W, HP , I - AISC standard steel W , I , and H sections - Pipe sections - I Custom sections
Beam Rotation - User can include inclination angles in any direction in space.
Unbraced Length Lx, Ly , Lb - Unbraced length factors can be included in weak and strong axes . - Unbraced lengths can be specified for weak and strong axes and for the unsupported compression flange.
Moment Amplifications Cmx , Cmy , Cb - for ASD desing moment amplification factors can be specified. - for LRFD non linear P-d (moment amplication effects) must be included in the design loads.
Number of Sections - Unlimited number of sections can be investigated for the same loading.
Steel Strength Fy , E - Steel yield strengfh has to be specified. Note that per AISC recommendations strength has to be less that 65 ksi for using appropriate equations because no extensive research has been performed on high strength steel beams and sections. You can specify higher steel strengths but results have to be used with caution. - Note that most pipes have 35 ksi, and 45 ksi yield strengths.
Loads P, Mx, My - Axial load P - Moment loads Mx (strong axis) and My (weak axis) - Moment from self weight can be calculated automatically (MxDL strong and MyDL weak axis)
