DeepEX with the Sea Walls Module : The ultimate software for the design of Marine Projects!
DeepEX software is the ultimate tool for the design and analysis of any deep excavation - retaining wall project. The standard version of the program can be used for the design of a big variety of common wall types and support systems used in marine projects such us cofferdams, anchored sheet pile walls, deadman systems and more. Now, with the new Sea Walls module activated (as an addition to our powerful Gravity Walls design add on), DeepEX can be also used for the design of gravity type quay walls, as well as, consider wave pressures and overtopping in the wall analysis.
As a quay wall designer you have to examine a range of issues from earth pressures, seismic conditions, ship loads, wave pressures, and on. DeepEX is the only software that covers all these aspects in a single package. With easy to use wizards you can quickly generate from simple gravity walls to 3D caisson walls with infill zones. DeepEX brings together coastal, structural, and geotechnical engineering principles in one package to make your design life easier. What does this mean? Wave pressures can now be automatically calculated with a number of established methods. Build-in recommendations allow you to easily estimate initial wave heights and wave lengths. You can even estimate overtopping flow rates!
How the Module Works
DeepEX software has a superior interactive interface that allows direct access to all project items (wall sections, stratigraphy, supports and more). Any gravity retaining wall section can be graphically added and edited directly on the model area. The section properties can be edited through intuitive user friendly dialogs. Moreover, DeepEX implements a powerful Model Wizard that can be used to generate any common quay wall type directly on the model area, so we can actually create any composite model in minutes.
The procedure to create and analyze any quay wall type within the program is summarized in the following steps:
Step 1: Create the Quay Wall Model with all Construction Stages
In DeepEX we can create any gravity type quay wall system in minutes with the Model Wizard. The Wizard allows us to select fast the retaining wall type and define all model options (soil properties and stratigraphy, wall section properties, external surchages, structural codes and load combinations and more) through a series of intuitive, user-friendly dialogs. The model will be created automatically with all construction stages.

Step 2: Define the Quay Wall gravity type section
In DeepEX we can easily access and edit the quay wall section type, by selecting from a list of available shapes (segmental walls, T walls, block type walls with the possibility to add infill zones, user-defined shape gravity sections and more). In the Section Properties dialog, the user can set all section properties (dimensions, reinforcement).

Step 3: Define the Soil Properties and the model Stratigraphy (Soil Layers)
In DeepEX we can easily access and define the soil types that we wish to use in the design and define the project actual stratigraphy. The software provides a series of soil properties estimation tools based on soil test data. With the Soil Estimation add on, we can also use SPT and CPT test data to estimate our soil properties and have a statistical analysis of the estimated properties, that can allow as having a high value of certainty when assigning the properties to each soil type.
In DeepEX we can create all soil layer lines. This procedure can be also done automatically with the software Model Wizard.

Step 4: Define the Analysis Settings and the Wave & Seismic Pressures Methods
DeepEX software can analyze any quay wall gravity system with the classical Limit Equilibrium Analysis method, and with the use of our Finite Element Analysis engine (with the additional FEM module). The user can define several analysis settings like the soil and water pressures methods, the wall friction, the slope stability analysis method and cricital slope surface method and more.
The software has implemented several wave pressures calculation methods (SainFlou, Goda, Coastal Engineering Manual and more. We can define several parameters for the wave pressure methods, and we can also assign overtopping flowrates.
In any construction stage we can assign seismic effects by defining the earthquake accelerations and the method for the calculation of the seismic pressures (Mononome-Okabe, Semirigid method and more).
Finally, DeepEX implements a series of load combinations for the design of gravity type quay walls (Eurocode 7, BS 6348-1/2 standards), as well as, several structural codes for the design of the structural members (ACI, AISC, Eurocodes 2 and 3).

Step 5: Review the Analysis Results
In DeepEX we can easily review several analysis results in tables and graphically on the model area. The software will give us notifications for all critical check ratios, and we can review in detail the calculated pressures, structural capacities, check ratios, critical slope surfaces and slope stability FS and more in each examined construction stage. This helps us locate the most critical stages and perform an efficient model optimization.
