Gravity wall design can be a tedious simple task to carry out. A gravity wall is a wall that relies on its self weight for stability. Gravity walls are some of the oldest forms of retaining structures. Ofcourse, the wall self weight is not the only force that keeps a wall stable. An engineer has to consider anumber of factors affect gravity wall stability.

This module of DEEP 2008 simplifies the whole process and generates clear reports that examine almost all aspects in gravity wall design only for $250.

A number of items have to be designed for gravity walls. First of all, one has to compute driving and resisting soil pressures. Then, the gravity wall selfweight and resisting moments have to be calculated. On top of that, when applicable, extra surcharges and seismic effects have to be computed. Once resisting and driving moments and forces are calculated, then the net base reaction can be calculated.

Safety factors can be calculated as available resistance / driving forces or moments.

With all forces and base reactions calculated, the next step is to determine the bearing capacity safety factors for the retaining wall.

Last, the structural design of the wall must be completed. Bending moments and shear forces in the stem, toe & heel have to be examined. The wall capacity and minimum requirements have to be considered.

In some cases, the global stability of gravity walls and ground-water flow has to be considered.

DEEP2008 - Gravity module performs all these computations efficiently, in an easy to use manner.
